Barclaycard PayTag, The NFC-Enabled Card You Glue To Your Phone Review

Barclaycard has launched a stick-on credit card, which will allow its 12 million customers the chance to make wave-and-pay purchases from their mobile phone or other item of their choice. The PayTag is a quarter of the size of a traditional credit card and will sit unobtrusively on any mobile handset or other item, which hopes the move will trigger the mass take-up of contactless payments that has so far proved elusive. he PayTag is an extension of a customer’s credit card account that can be used to make payments of £15 and under, though the limit will rise to £20 in June and the PayTag will be released to a select group of customers in the coming weeks with mass availability coming later this year.



Barclaycard announced the launch of Barclaycard PayTag, a new way to pay with your mobile telephone. Millions of Barclaycard customers will be offered the chance to make payments with any mobile phone by simply sticking a Barclaycard PayTag to the back of their handset. Available at no cost, and exclusively to Barclaycard Visa cardholders, Barclaycard PayTag is an extension of a customer’s credit card account. At a third of the size of a normal card, it can be discreetly and simply stuck to the back of any mobile phone. Once attached, it can be used to make payments of £15 and under, rising to £20 in June, by simply being held over a contactless payment terminal. David Chan, CEO of Barclaycard Consumer Europe, said: “Today, we are offering the choice of mobile payments to millions of our customers at no additional cost to them. More than half of us say that the item we’re most lost without is our mobile phone, so we’re giving people the option of using them to make easy, convenient, everyday payments without the need to upgrade their current handset.” The announcement comes as Visa predicts that the number of contactless point-of-sale terminals in the UK will rise by 50% to 150,000 this year. Major retailers that offer, or are introducing, contactless include Waitrose, McDonalds, Boots, WH Smith and Tesco. By the end of 2012, London buses will also accept contactless payments, followed by the Tube and the rest of the transport network in the Capital in 2013.



Barclaycard PayTag is safe and secure, and comes with the same 100% fraud protection as any Barclaycard. An exclusive group of customers will be invited to receive their Barclaycard PayTag in the coming weeks, before they are offered to millions of Barclaycard customers later in the year. David Chan, adds: “Barclaycard is developing a wide range of initiatives which will ultimately enable everyone to enjoy the benefits of mobile payments. Barclaycard PayTag is another milestone on our journey to make paying easier, and sits alongside other easy ways to pay with your mobile such as those we offer in partnership with Orange.” Last week Barclaycard and Orange announced that credit or debit card holders from all UK banks would be able to load money onto Barclaycard’s mobile payments application, in the Quick Tap wallet. This will open up the opportunity for contactless payments to more Orange customers. Orange also confirmed that it would be making Quick Tap available on a range of Android smartphones, with the first to be announced in the coming weeks. Research carried out on Barclaycard’s behalf predicts that £3 billion worth of purchases will be made with mobile phones in the UK in 2016. Barclaycard PayTag provides customers with the choice of simple mobile phone payments now, without having to wait to upgrade, and at no additional cost.

C Spire Wireless 4G LTE Review

C Spire restarts LTE rollout, aims for September launch in Mississippi and this particular flavor of 4G is more akin to the brisk, though not blistering performance achieved by HSPA+, given average downlink speeds should range between 4Mbps to 12Mbps and uplink at 1Mbps to 5Mbps. The network will cover 2,700 square miles, 1.2 million people, and more than 360 cell sites and the new service is said to provide 4 out of every 10 consumers and businesses in the Mississippi market with wireless data speeds 10 times faster than 3G.



C Spire Wireless, the only U.S. provider that offers a suite of personalized wireless services released details on its plans to introduce 4G LTE (Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution) high-speed mobile broadband services this fall. The company plans to invest $60 million to begin the roll out 4G LTE mobile broadband services in September in 20 Mississippi markets covering 2,700 square miles, a population of 1.2 million and more than 360 cell sites. The new service will provide 4 out of every 10 consumers and businesses in Mississippi with wireless data speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, allowing C Spire to be the first provider to make these services widely available in the state. "Wireless networks are all about coverage, quality and speed, and the C Spire Wireless personalized network cannot be beat," said Hu Meena, president and CEO for C Spire Wireless. "We will continue to lead the way with our aggressive 4G LTE network upgrades so that our customers have the wireless services that allow them to do what they want to do when they need to do it in more places that matter to them." Today's announcement only involves the first phase of our 4G LTE deployment. More phases and more coverage will soon follow." Meena said the company plans to begin the roll out of its 4G LTE mobile broadband services in September in the following markets, most of which will be the first time consumers have access to the high-speed technology:

Archos 7-inch Child Pad ICS Kid-Friendly Tablet Review

The Archos Child Pad is a 7-inch, $129 tablet running Android 4.0 and the Child Pad looks very similar to the $199 70b Honeycomb tablet, but the specs are a bit different — you'll get a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. The Droid Pro ships with Android 2.2 -- aka Froyo. That’s just about the newest version of the Android OS, if you’re not counting a couple of phones on Android 2.2.1, and if you’re not counting that we’re expecting the announcement of Android 2.3 Gingerbread any time now.
The phone has the same homescreen customizations that debuted earlier this year on the Droid X. (Call it the new Blur, or Motoblur or, yes, Phil Blur.) You’ve got the usual three buttons at the bottom for the phone dialer, app launcher and contacts. (Note to Motorola: Please change the contacts button to something more useful. We can get to the contacts through the phone dialer just fine, thank you very much.)
You have the usual seven home screens on which to put app shortcuts, widgets -- the works. Motorola’s loaded them up with the usual widgets -- social networking, updates, weather, some useful toggles for Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and airplane mode), calendar, messages, search, music app, photo gallery, news reader -- a ton of stuff for a little phone, really.
Call it bloat if you must, but they’re really some useful widgets, and they have the added bonus of being resizeable if you want. (Tap and hold a widget. When you let go, it can be resized.)

A lot of that we could do without, but to each his (or her) own. Not preloaded are any of Verizon’s VCAST apps, and that makes us happy.
Oh, and notice that Task Manager? Yeah. It's an evil, EVIL task manager. Actually, the app itself is well done. If there's an app that hangs (I have the occasional problem with Seesmic not making a connection, for instance), you can use this to kill the app, and then reopen it. But please, PLEASE, don't use it to automatically kill apps that you think you don't want running. Because it's fine, you're wrong, and the Droid Pro has plenty of overhead to handle more than one thing at a time.

Some odds and ends

1. We had zero problems with the GPS on the Droid Pro. It locked on in about 12 seconds.
2. The speakerphone is above average -- Motorola continues to make great ones.
3. There are 14 steps between LOUD and vibrate, using the volume buttons.
4. Double-tap the home button to launch voice commands. (That's different than using the microphone button.
5. The web browser is your basic Android browser. Nothing special, it just works.
6. The only on-screen keyboard you have is the Motorola multitouch keyboard. No Swype. You can download others at your leisure.

Samsung Galaxy Pro SmartPhone Review

Samsung Galaxy Pro is the newest smart phone with small 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen. This is the only helpful device with a 4 tiered QWERTY  physical keyboard. Galaxy Pro has a 320 x 240-pixel resolution display. I can not guess anything that why samsung choose to make this low resolution screen in this smart technology time. A 2.8" screen is pretty small for an Android handset, How android os is manageable with landscape orientation on such this small screen? Add to that the lack of multi-touch and the Samsung Galaxy Pro display begins to lose appeal. Viewing angles are also pretty poor, as is outdoor visibility, making the display's one redeeming factor being its responsiveness. Like most galaxy S device it has 3.52mm headphone jack on up top as well as a micro USB connectior protected by a sliding cover while on the reverse of the handset is the battery cover complete with a textured finish, 3MP camera and loud speaker. To the right of the phone is a volume rocker and to the left a power button. It is at 10.7mm thin and it is 3.52mm thinner than the BlackBerry Tour and just 1mm thinner than iphone 4.  The Samsung Galaxy Pro looks rather rectangular and rigid, so while similar in form factor to BlackBerrys of late. The phone is entirely plastic, though feels sturdy. With a pleasing aesthetic and overall solid feel finished off with a good keyboard experience.

QWERTY keyboard is for professionals who want the tangible feedback of pushing buttons while typing but it also embraces the navigational and intuitive ease provided by a capacitive touch screen. While everyone else was busy trying to keep up with iPhone, Apple were busy creating amazing new features that make iPhone more powerful, easier to use, and more indispensable than ever. The result is iPhone 4. The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone. All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass - the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It's also recyclable. The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display boasts a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution phone screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small - a mere 78 micrometers across - that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. That makes text remarkably sharp and graphics incredibly vivid. IPS technology also provides excellent color and contrast from almost any viewing angle. Created from Apple's own alloy, then forged to be five times stronger than standard steel, the CNC-machined band is the mounting point for all the components of iPhone 4. The good: The iPhone 4 offers enhanced performance, a lovely new display, and an improved design. It also adds a ton of sorely needed features, both by itself and through the iOS 4 update.

The bad: Multitasking entails some trade-offs, and home screen folders are limited to 12 apps. AT&T reception continues to be spotty, and you'll need a case for the best calling reception. Also, we'd prefer a 64GB model.

The bottom line: With the iPhone 4, Apple again shows that it is a powerful player in the smartphone wars. It won't be for everyone, the call quality and reception vary if you don't use a case, and AT&T's network remains a sticking point, but the handset's striking design, loaded feature set, and generally agreeable performance make it the best iPhone yet.

Great design and build, exceptionally comfortable typing experience, large display, HDMI out, USB On-the-Go, HD video playback, good camera and video recording quality. Expensive, a bit long and bulky, no auto-focus in camera, no expandable storage, cannot play video files over 2GBw

Over the years, we've seen a steady stream of business and messaging-centric landscape QWERTY smartphones come and go, with HTC arguably leading the pack via its collection of Windows Mobile, Android, and WP7 devices featuring sliding keyboards and tilt-out displays. But few of HTC's offerings are as iconic or memorable as Nokia's line of Communicator clamshell phones -- starting with the Nokia 9000 in 1996, continuing with Symbian S80 models, and culminating with the Nokia E90 atop S60v3. The Nokia E7 is the latest Communicator in this distinguished series and the manufacturer's current flagship device, dethroning the Nokia N8 which continues on as the company's media mogul. A lot has changed in the six months since the N8 was introduced, including Nokia's recent partnership with Microsoft and the stunning announcement that it will be adopting Windows Phone for future high-end smartphones. So, is the E7 -- which is finally shipping in the US?

Nokia's Communicator series has come a long way since its inception back in 1996. The Nokia N9000 Communicator was the first of the lot and incidentally also happened to be the very first smartphone. What made it "smart" was its ability to be used as a PDA, a big deal back then. Since then, the Communicators became more powerful and also smaller along the way. The last time Nokia used the Communicator brand name was with the 9500. The E90 that came after that did not have the Communicator name associated with it but it was unmistakably a Communicator. 

Times were changing though and people no longer needed such large devices. They wanted something more compact but at the same time with a full QWERTY keyboard to type their messages on and a large screen for reading their mails and browsing the Internet. This was exactly the kind of usage the Communicators were built for but with their old design, they would find only a few takers in today's day and age. So, to meet the demands of these new age business users, Nokia completely redesigned the Communicator and thus the E7 was born. 

Just like its predecessor, the E7 may not have the Communicator name attached to it, but that doesn't prevent it from being just like one. It has the same large display, a large QWERTY keypad and all the features that a business user would appreciate. If only N9000 would have been around, he would have been proud of this little fella (little in comparison to the N9000. The E7 is not small by any means). Today, we have the opportunity to review this latest and greatest business phone from Nokia. Let us find out how well it performs.

Main disadvantages

• Symbian^3 is still behind Android and iOS usability standards

Nokia reconfirmed their commitment to Symbian in the short-term, but that doesn’t mean much. If the platform is to be scrapped, users will learn it the hard way when regular updates stop coming in. Occasional bug-fixes is the best they can hope to get. And good software support is among of the main reasons why people still choose Nokia

Nokia E7 is basically a larger N8, trading the camera bulk for a a larger and better display and a full QWERTY keyboard. To be honest though, when we reviewed the N8 it was mostly the camera we were delighted with. Then, that was five months ago and the bar is set higher now.
